2009: Made his Runners Market debut at the Tom King 5k where he finished 2nd overall in a time of 15:52...Finished third overall at the Dogwood 5k running 16:01...Took another third place finish at the EXPO 10,000 running a time of 33:39...Picked up a pair of 1-mile road victories at the Downtown Dash and the Fast 40 Dash.
College: NCAA Southeast Regional Qualifier on the track in 2008...Made the NCAA All-South Region Cross-Country Team in 2007...2 time Southern Conference Champion while at UTC.
Before College: Free State U/22 800m Champion and 9th in the 1500m at South African Nationals in 2003.
Miscellaneous: Mentz, a miler specialist from South Africa, recalls one of his favorite running memories in his first collegiate race: "Fresh off the boat, Memphis track team opened up at the prestigious Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois. With some crazy fast seed times, I was ready for a lesson in running the 800m run. I won the race in a mediocre 1:57 and thought college track would be a breeze form there on out...I was wrong!"
