Knoxville Running Trails
Looking for some off-pavement running opportunities? There are several great
trails within 10 - 30 minutes driving distance from Knoxville. If you live in West Knoxville, try the Concord Park trails.
There are several trail in Oak Ridge, with the best trail running in
the area at the Haw Ridge Park. The longest drive on the list of
local trails is the Norris watershed. The drive is worth the miles of great trail.
-
I.C. King Park. Alcoa Highway, Knoxville. Real trails! And just minutes from UT!
-
Concord Park. 10901 South Northshore Dr, Knoxville. Easy access from Farragut. A variety of difficulty - just play around. Access
is from Northshore Road. Park near the Concord swimming pool.
-
Ijams Nature Center. 2915 Island Home Avenue, Knoxville. Close to downtown Knoxville.
-
Haw Ridge. Edgemore Rd, Oak Ridge. The Knoxville Area's best trail running
opportunities - over 20 miles of trail. You may have to share the trail with the mountain bikes, but it is never crowded.
-
North Ridge Trail. Outer Dr, Oak Ridge. Not for the faint at heart.
You think "'Ridge', OK, I will already be at the top of the mountain." Think again. The ups and downs are great for hill training.
-
North Boundary Trail. Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge. A little bit of
everything on old Department of Energy roads turned official trail greenway. There are two access points to this trail. The Old Guard Shack on Oak Ridge Turnpike (Highway 58) has good
parking, but beware the first 3/4 mile hill. The benefit of this direction is the great downhill once you reach the top of the ridge. Access at the other end of the trail near the
intersection of OR Turnpike and Highway 95 is much more gentle. The first mile or two are flat, passing over Lower East Fork Poplar Creek.
-
Norris Water Shed. Highway 441, Norris. Well worth the long drive.
